Operating Environment

As we will discuss in Section 3.2, XMLbroker is not an autonomous piece of software. It is part of a larger middleware platform. Integrating modules from different origins into a cohesive software entity is not a straightforward exercise and it requires some understanding of the underlying operating system environment and services. The GNU/Linux operating system was adopted because it provides an open, stable and well understood platform. This decision is part of a broader strategy to diminish the risk associated with the use of technology--in order to allow a linear-time development (see Section [*]).
